Brooks Lennon, one of our young stars who was expected to break into the first team, is set to leave the club soon. A report from ESPN claims that the American, who is on loan at American club Real Salt Lake, is wanted there on a permanent basis.
The 20-year-old started his youth career at Real Salt Lake and impressed a lot of the Liverpool scouts during a trial which led to us signing him. However, he was then sent back on loan to the club where he has done pretty well, by making 26 appearances for the side.
The major doubt is whether Lennon would be signed by the club before his current contract ends at Liverpool. The American club would be looking to sign the 20-year-old on the cheap and could wait for his contract to expire but he could be targeted by some other clubs as well.
The American striker was a regular for our U-23 side but given that we have a lot of talent in the striking department, it is not a surprise that the American would be released sooner or later.
We already have the likes of Ben Woodburn who made history by becoming our youngest ever scorer last season and even he has not played a single minute for the senior side this season.
The likes of Rhian Brewster are also waiting in the wings and it would not be a surprise if he does make an appearance this season in the first-team either. Jurgen Klopp does have a number of players who are ready to break into the first team and maybe Lennon was not a part of the group that progressed enough to make it into the next level.
The 20-year-old could still turn into a good player and hopefully, he will achieve the same when he does move to Salt Lake or any other club. Lennon won the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship with the US national side and maybe there is a lot more to come from the American in the years ahead.
