Leon Goretzka Schalke

Liverpool are on the lookout for adding quality names to their roster in the January window. The Reds are reported to have received a shot in the arm with the possibility of a deal for a long-term target falling into place.

According to Don Balon (h/t Belfast Telegraph), Liverpool have agreed on a deal for Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka ahead of the winter transfer window. The report states that the Reds have a deal in place for the Schalke attacker.

If the reports are true, then the Reds would have beaten tough competition from across Europe as top clubs are interested in signing Goretzka. The German midfielder is in great demand as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich are all reported to have been tracking the youngster.

The 22-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga side expires next summer and he has already rejected advances of Schalke to extend his contract. There are reports that Schalke could look to cut down their losses by sanctioning a move in January.

Arsenal were reportedly ahead in the race but as is the tradition with the Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger, there is a lot of discussion going on for the youngster’s signature.

There are also reports that Goretzka was courted by Barcelona and that the Catalan giants have approached him with an offer. However, the midfielder was rumoured to have turned down their approach, as he was unimpressed with the deal offered by the Spanish side.

Suso To Come Back To Liverpool?

Another player reportedly viewed by manager Jurgen Klopp is AC Milan playmaker Suso. Now, he is not a new name for us, as the player has previously played for us. He left Anfield in 2015 after only 14 League appearances.

Suso never endeared himself to the Kop faithful but has got his career back on track at San Siro. The 23-year-old is rumoured to be on the radar of many clubs and Klopp hopes to lure him back to Anfield with a promise of first-team action.

A move for Goretzka will be a step forward while any deal to bring back Suso will represent a step back. Let’s hope we get to see the German in a Red shirt soon!
