England facing Brazil was supposed to be a real test for a new Three Lions side featuring a lot of young players. One of them was Liverpool’s Joe Gomez and the defender did his country proud by ensuring the team did not concede a goal.
This was England’s second 0-0 draw on the trot but the level of opposition in both games does provide some hope for the team ahead of the World Cup. Gareth Southgate has stated that players based would be chosen on form and Gomez certainly displayed a level of maturity, facing the likes of Neymar and others.
The youngster has mostly played as a right-back for us this season but there are calls for him to be moved to the centre-back position, especially due to the erratic form of Dejan Lovren. Gomez might also be preferred as the third CB in England’s back-three, something no one would have expected after his injury problems.
We did have another debutant for the Three Lions in Dominic Solanke but Gomez stole the headlines and was even declared as the man-of-the-match.
Liverpool fans certainly have a lot to look at in the future with respect to a number of youngsters but for now, here are some of the best Twitter reactions to Gomez dominating Brazil’s attack.
