A recent study from the BBC has shared some startling facts about Liverpool’s pricing structure for tickets. The Liverpool Echo carried the report which states that our cheapest season ticket still makes it to the top three most expensive ones, just behind Arsenal and Chelsea.
The report suggests that the tickets for the entire campaign costs £685 while the same for the Gunners costs £891 and Chelsea’s comes at £750. This comes smack in the face of many suggestions that FSG is trying to ensure more people from the city get to watch their club more but these numbers say otherwise.
The most popular season ticket isn’t any cheaper and comes in second at £869 while that of Arsenal’s is just £21 costlier.
The more infuriating fact is that our most popular matchday ticket is priced at £53, which is the costliest in English football while newly promoted Huddersfield has provided the English football’s cheapest season tickets at £100.
It is safe to say that a number of our fans were not impressed with the news and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
The fact that are match day tickets are dearer than London clubs, when the average wage in London is higher than Merseyside is shocking, pricing fans out of the ground. We’re becoming like Arsenal contempt with top 4 making the owners riche, but FSG are good for us

Lining FSG s pockets but none of the money gets invested in players . We need to get rid of FSG #fsgout

Liverpool F.C is from a working class area … They should start to think a bit more about the fans that live in the area .. WHO can’t get tickets to watch the team play ..

Yet struggling to sign world class players. Sell sell sell fsg…#fsgout

I wouldn’t mind rises in ticket prices if fsg invested in world class players I wouldn’t be paying over the odds to watch Henderson an Lovren though fuck that.

The cheapest current #LFC ST ticket costs £685. In 1981 one was £63 (£249 with inflation) – meaning fans are getting over charged £436 each pic.twitter.com/OsOWVlgEGn

And the difference being is that Arsenal and Chelsea have all won trophies in the last few years. We pay top dollar at Liverpool for top 6 football and no trophies.

Yet we are 8th best team in the league

The price freeze comes off this year too so guess which way they are going to go. Here’s a clue as to what will happen. John Henry quote from 2016: “while ticket pricing remains an issue, the Anfield Road re-development is not financially viable” or words to that effect. #FSGout
