Liverpool Contact PSG To Sign Star Man On Short-term Loan In January – French Reports

Liverpool have got in touch with French club Paris Saint-Germain about the possibility of bringing Julian Draxler to Anfield in the winter transfer window. According to the L’Equipe (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Reds have reportedly got in touch with the Parisian club to check on the situation of their unsettled midfielder Julian Draxler with a view of making a loan deal in January.

The German playmaker is one of those players who has suddenly become dispensable due to the arrival of Neymar. After the Brazilian superstar arrived from Barcelona in a world-record deal in the summer, PSG were forced to make room in their squad not just for strategic purposes but also for financial reasons to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP).

A group of players have been identified by the club and were told that they can find another club. Although Draxler is not a part of that group, the German midfielder is still unhappy about his situation at the club following Neymar’s arrival.

PSG coach Unai Emery has put Draxler in a deeper midfield role, which is an antithesis to what the player usually does. Although he is settled at the club, Draxler is willing to explore options to make sure he plays in his favourite position.

This is where Liverpool come in as the Reds, as claimed by L’Equipe (h/t Liverpool Echo), have made a request to see if they can bring him to the club in a short-term deal in January.

The point to be noted is that Draxler was a long-term target for the Reds who scouted him for a long time before he made a move to Paris. After his arrival, Draxler was one of the star players, who impressed with 10 goals in 25 appearances.

However, the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe has pushed Draxler deeper and he doesn’t seem averse to exploring the option of joining Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has seen Draxler in action in the Bundesliga and believes that he can be a great fit in his squad at Anfield.

A permanent deal may be difficult to pull off considering Draxler’s reluctance to give up on PSG yet, which means Klopp’s biggest chance would be to offer a loan-deal.
