Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, according to the Sport Bild, is one of the three candidates who could succeed Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich from next season.
The Bavarians sacked Ancelotti back in September after only a season and following this, their former manager Jupp Heynckes came out of retirement to stable the ship. The 72-year-old has indeed stabilised their cruise and the fact that Bayern have won 8 of their 10 games is the perfect specimen of it. Heynckes has only been appointed until the end of the season and with that being done, the Bavarians are on a hunt to land a new gaffer and Jurgen Klopp has been named as one of the three candidates for the job.
Furthermore, although Bayern president Uli Hoeness had previously confirmed that the club are looking to appoint Heynckes on a permanent basis, the 72-year-old rejected the offer and insisted that he has no intentions of staying with Bayern beyond his current contract.
“I don’t know why Uli said what he said,” Heynckes was quoted as saying by ESPN last week.
“We have an extremely clear agreement and that runs until 30 June 2018, and that is the way it is staying. I don’t want to comment on this every week. That’s pretty clear.”
Besides Klopp, former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann have been shortlisted as well. Meanwhile, Germany’s national team coach Joachim Low was linked as well, but Low himself has cooled down the talks given the fact that he is contracted with the Die Mannschaft until 2020.
Sparking the rumours, former Germany defender Christoph Metzelder had adviced Klopp to consider taking the Bayern job.
“He is a top man-manager and could make the complex power relationship work wonderfully,” Metzelder was quoted as saying by the Independent.
“Nagelsmann is an outstanding coach but Bayern Munich is, of course, a different size [to Hoffenheim]. From my point of view, Jurgen Klopp would be ready.”
With these rumours doing the rounds, Liverpool fans went into a frenzy and this is how they reacted to the news:
