Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly ready to fight it out for the signature of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. As per the Daily Mail, Seri is considering a move to the Premier League, with City and the Reds showing strong interest in the Ivorian.

Seri was very close to joining Barcelona in the summer but the move never happened, with the Catalans pulling out of the deal at the last moment. The midfielder was one of Ernesto Valverde’s top targets as he looked to improve his side before the transfer market closed. Considering that Barcelona are known for tapping and turning players’ heads away from other clubs, this could well be our chance to serve them the taste of their own medicine.

Seri was said to be ‘shattered’ at the failed move to Catalonia and is now attracting the attention of Liverpool, Manchester City and PSG.

Scouts from City and Liverpool have watched Seri extensively this season and should continue to keep a brief watch ahead of a potential swoop. Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the midfielder. The French capital club are looking to replace veteran Thiago Motta and feel that Seri is the ideal candidate. However, Seri is said to be excited about a move to the Premier League.

The Ivorian enjoyed a sensational season with Nice last term, as the team finished 3rd in Ligue 1 and earned a place in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. Seri is a gifted player, always keen to get on the ball and spray passes with pinpoint accuracy.

He has been unfortunate with injuries this season but is beginning to show his quality once again as Nice look to improve their position in the league.

With Emre Can’s contract expiring next summer and with the midfielder very likely to leave Anfield, Liverpool may be looking at Seri as a like-to-like replacement for the German due to his passing range, technical quality and ability to dominate the midfield as well as protect the defence.

As a result, sides like City and Liverpool may view the January window as an opportunity to make a bold move for Seri. But the Ivory international has already ruled out a January move. There will be a stiff competition between lots of clubs next summer for Seri, who has a contract with Nice that expires in the summer of 2019.

With Naby Keita set to arrive in summer after we agreed on a club record deal in August with RB Leipzig, Klopp should think twice before making a move for Seri.
