Liverpool have been dealt a major blow in their hopes of signing one of the rising talents in Dutch football with Perr Schuurs deciding to remain in Holland and continue his development in his native land. The 18-year-old has played most of his youth career with Fortuna Sittard and is expected to complete a move to giants Ajax, according to the Daily Mirror.

We kept a close eye on the centre-back and even gave him a trial a few months ago but it seems like his desire to stay in his home country has worked in favour of Ajax and the youngster will possibly be playing a lot of football for one of the biggest clubs in Holland.

The Right Decision By The Youngster

It is a bit of a blow for us to lose out on the talented player but it is possibly the best decision for all parties regarding Schuurs’ development. Ajax is one of the best clubs in the world when it comes to developing players and Schuurs would not have to move away to a foreign land to grow further.

Should we have signed him, the youngster would not have played regular first-team football, like he does for his current side Fortuna Sittard.

The central defender seems to be adept at popping up and scoring goals for fun as he already has 5 goals to his name from just 15 league games.

Schuurs is a prospect for the future and we would probably have sent him to our U23 side to continue his development, which might have actually stunted his growth. At the moment, facing first-team opposition is the best thing for him and that could be another reason behind his decision to stick to Holland as Ajax still gives their young players the chances to impress.

The lack of crazy media exposure will be to his benefit in Holland and if things go his way, Schuurs could fulfil his potential and become the quality defender that he is expected to become.
