Liverpool were grossly unlucky to miss out on a win against Everton in the Merseyside derby. It was a game that we dominated from the start to the end but it was all decided in a moment by the referee.

That shouldn’t take the focus away from our campaign as Jurgen Klopp tries his best to get us back on track in the race to the Champions League spots. I say this because winning the title now seems to be out of reach, especially with Manchester City beating Manchester United yesterday.

This means that Klopp will have to dive into the January transfer window to make additions to his squad and stay in the race. The supporters are always worried about what direction we will take in the January transfer window, but CEO Peter Moore has allayed all the fears in his note to the supporters. (Liverpool Echo)

Moore says that the supporters can look ahead to a busy transfer window once it opens in January, as there would be a lot of activity at the club. He assured the fans that the club would continue to make signings that would strengthen the squad at Klopp’s disposal.

He also said that the club is not averse to spend big, although the idea is to buy someone that would add value to the squad.

“What I will say, because I know you are leading up to the question about January, the club continues to look at acquisitions that will strengthen the squad.”

“It’s not about buying the most expensive player. The club continues to look at acquisitions that will strengthen the squad.”

So, who should it be that we should buy in the January transfer window? Many names have been linked to both the doors at Anfield – entry and exit – but I do not want to get into the debate about the ones going out. Let me say this once again; no player should leave in the winter window and I am sure that Klopp wouldn’t let anyone do that.

Coming to the incoming players, there is so much emphasis on the defensive frailties of the club in the recent times, with the club looking poor at the back every game.

I would want to see a defender being signed in the January window and if that is Virgil van Dijk, I would be really happy. Will that happen? I hope so!
