For a second straight match, Liverpool dropped points at Anfield, this time, playing out a scoreless draw against West Brom on Wednesday evening in the Premier League. Roberto Firmino screwed a side-foot finish narrowly wide before Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross escaped Mohamed Salah’s stretching boot in the first half.

West Brom came just as close before the interval, with Hal Robson-Kanu’s curling shot from distance flicking the bar.

Liverpool had their chances, of course, in the second half. Sadio Mane blew a golden opportunity in the 56th minute, slicing his first-time strike wide off a Firmino low cross, while defender Jonny Evans came up with a crucial clearance off the line in the 65th minute.

It appeared the Reds had one when substitute Dominic Solanke had a goal disallowed for handball and a shot cleared off the line in the final 10 minutes.

For the visitors, Salomon Rondon hit the post in the 85th minute, while Ahmed Hegazi had more than one chance to put a header on goal in the second half but couldn’t beat ‘keeper Loris Karius.

The hosts were not short of attacking options and strained the West Brom rearguard but ultimately could not breach it. It was an all rearguard action from Alan Pardew’s men as Liverpool failed to bag three points which they surely should have had.

The stalemate saw Jurgen Klopp’s side drop 18 points behind Manchester City and to 5th on the table, as Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Brighton saw them leapfrog the Reds.

On the other hand, it was West Brom’s 15th straight Premier League match without a win, which left them at 17th on the table.

The final whistle at Anfield was met by a lot of frustration from the Kopites, on Twitter. Here’s how the fans reacted to the goalless draw.
