Liverpool fans hailed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the Reds midfielder stepped in to interrupt Philippe Coutinho’s post-match interview about a Barcelona transfer.
The Reds ran riot at Vitality Stadium, thrashing hosts Bournemouth 4-0 on Sunday’s late evening kick-off. Coutinho scored his 50th Liverpool goal to open the scoring before Dejan Lovren’s diving header doubled the advantage.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino secured the points for a free-scoring Jurgen Klopp’s side, who bounced back from the disappointment of consecutive home draws with Everton and West Brom and moved back into the Premier League’s top four.
After the game, Coutinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain were speaking to the press when the reporter asked the former if he wanted to stay at the club with rumours endemic over a potential move to Barcelona. The playmaker insisted he is currently enjoying his football at Anfield and before the Brazilian could elaborate, Oxlade-Chamberlain interrupted to praise his teammate’s attitude.
“Phil’s a Liverpool player right now and he’s doing really well for us,” the England international was quoted in a report by Liverpool Echo.
“He’s been the most professional player I’ve seen all season.
“He’s been top quality since the start and every time he gets on the pitch he does his all for the club and that’s the most important thing.
“It’s not fair to ask those kinds of questions I don’t think. He gives us his all every match and that’s all we can ask of him,” Chamberlain added.
The Reds faithful were delighted with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s matured actions and expressed their views on Twitter. Here’s how they reacted.
@EverleyJack not going to lie, my respect for Oxlade Chamberlain has massively increased here.

Kudos to Oxlade-Chamberlain for an excellent performance on the pitch and in the post match interview. Saved Coutinho from a god awful question.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues his impressive display through to the post-match TV interview. He interjects as Phil Coutinho is asked about his future and supports his team-mate, highlighting the Brazilian’s professionalism and labelling the question unfair.

Is right Oxlade-Chamberlain there. Played well on the pitch, helped his team-mate off it when faced with the shit-stirring questions.

That was absolute class from Oxlade-Chamberlain there, reporter putting Coutinho under pressure with a dumb question and Ox stepped in so professionally. That’s captain material right there, I’m so impressed

Interviewer asking Coutinho about his future with #LFC & Oxlade Chamberlain interjects & puts an arm around him saying it’s unfair to ask such questions, especially after a performance like this! That’s quality right there. That’s camaraderie & looking out for your mates!

Love seeing Oxlade-Chamberlain stepping in to defend Coutinho who was struggling to answer (in his second language) a real bastard of a question from the reporter. Good on him.

And that’s why we sing again… For Oxlade Chamberlain!!! #LFC

Oxlade Chamberlain wasn’t man of the match – but after the way he stepped in to support Coutinho in the post match interview – he can definitely have it. #BOULIV #LFC

If his performance on the pitch today wasn’t enough, Oxlade-Chamberlain stepping in when the Sky reporter asked Coutinho about his future was exactly what you want to see. His best day as a Red.
