As if acquiring Virgil van Dijk for a world record £75m fee wasn’t enough, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is now considering making a move for AS Roma stopper Alisson Becker.

Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia) quotes that Jurgen Klopp is still keen on strengthening his defensive pack and in doing so, has identified Alisson as a perfect marksman who he thinks can replace Simon Mignolet between the sticks.

However, Liverpool, who signed Mohamed Salah from Roma last summer, aren’t the only club interested in the Brazilian as the aforementioned source quotes that the like of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are in the fray as well.

As things stand for the French giants, both Kevin Trapp and Alphonse Areola have failed to provide a suitable cover, while the chiefs at FC Barcelona are keen on providing Marc Andre Ter-Stegen more competition and this is when Alisson comes into the frame.

Liverpool, on the other hand, face a similar situation to that of PSG as both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have failed to live up the billing. The former, in particular, has been criticised by almost every Liverpool faithful, hence it won’t be a surprise seeing Klopp making a change in the goalkeeping department.

Alisson, 25, has played every single minute of Roma’s Serie A fixtures so far and has only conceded 12 goals in 18 appearances. And as far as his contract with the capital club is concerned, he still has more than three years left on his deal.

His previous season with Roma was completely contrary to that of the current campaign as he was named as second fiddle to Wojciech Szczesny. But with the Polish keeper joining Juventus over the summer, Alisson, who joined Roma from Internacional in 2016, picked up the spot and hasn’t disappointed till date.

“I was waiting for this year, last season I didn’t play much but I worked so hard to get myself ready. When Roma bought me I was ready, I’d have played well, even right away,” Alisson was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia).

“I had faith and I want to keep doing well for Roma.”

Besides Alisson, Liverpool are also thought to be keeping close tabs on Stoke City’s Jack Butland, who is in contention to be England’s first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup in Russia ahead of Joe Hart.
