As the Philippe Coutinho saga has finally come to an end, attention has already begun to switch towards players who could potentially come in and replace the Brazilian at Liverpool. Coutinho, as we all know, wanted to move to Barcelona. He wanted to do so in the summer but Liverpool rejected three bids from Barcelona. He wanted to move in the January transfer window and he has finally got his dream move.
With the Brazilian’s sale, the Reds, who have already spent £75million on Virgil van Dijk this transfer window, will now have extra funds at their disposal. Riyad Mahrez is the latest to be linked with us, with French newspaper L’Equipe suggesting that the Reds have made contact with Leicester City over a move for the Algerian star.
Mahrez has been in fine form lately, bringing back memories of that brilliant 2015-16 season in which he was named PFA Player of the Year and helped Leicester to the fairytale Premier League title.
The 26-year-old was close to leaving the King Power Stadium in the summer but stayed put with the Foxes. But due to his sensational form in recent weeks, he has become a subject of interest and Liverpool have expressed a desire to bring him to Anfield.
Besides possessing the pace and the quick-feet to provide a threat from wider areas, Mahrez also offers the invention that Jurgen Klopp has lost in the form of Coutinho.
With 7 goals and 7 assists to his name so far this season, the Algeria international is certainly a capable candidate to try and compensate for the loss of Coutinho’s attacking production.
With rumours linking Mahrez to an Anfield move, this is how the Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter.
Mahrez best season ; 17 goals, 11 assists + Premier League trophy ( £40m)
Coutinho best season; 10 goals , 8 assists (£142m)

Liverpool fans literally being sold dreams. They’re not signing anyone this window especially not Mahrez or Goretzka or even Lemar.

Why on earth do Liverpool want Mahrez?

Have to admit Liverpool buying VVD and selling Coutinho was a pretty good move for them. And now with the likes of Mahrez linked to them Klopp is building a strong team. #pacey let’s see how it works out in the second half of the season

If they sign him just proves my Liverpool won’t win the league under klopp! They have firmihno, salah, mane, solanke, Lallana etc. They don’t need to be spending £40m+ on mahrez! Spend it on other areas like keeper, defence and holding mid

Liverpool will really be up the creek if they bring in Mahrez the next time the AFCON comes round. They struggled without Mane last year and have brought Salah in since then.

Liverpool frontline looking so halal with Mane, Salah and Mahrez.
