Predicted Liverpool Lineup To Face Manchester City In The Premier League

Liverpool had to deal with the good and the bad in the world of football as they signed Virgil van Dijk, making him the most expensive defender in the world before losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Both transfers could have happened in the summer but the deals finally took place in the winter window.

Our next game is against Manchester City and the 5-0 loss at the Etihad will remain in our minds as that is one of the two games we have lost in the Premier League this season. In our previous game, it took a Van Dijk header to seal the victory against bitter rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round and hopefully the defender will have another great game to hand the Manchester club their first loss of the Premier League season.

City played in the FA Cup and also in the midweek as they registered wins in both games and hopefully, they will be a little tired when they face us at Anfield.

Team news

Mohamed Salah should be fit enough to face Manchester City while we should see the return of Jordan Henderson to the starting XI after he missed out on the FA Cup tie.

Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are the two other players who might be fit for the game but in all probability, they won’t be on the bench as we look to keep them fresh for the remainder of the campaign.

Formation: 4-3-3

Simon Mignolet (GK)

Mignolet was given a break in the FA Cup but he should return to the side and hopefully, he will have a good game too.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

It was tough to decide between Joe Gomez and Trent but the youngster’s pace might just be the reason why Jurgen Klopp could decide to start him in place of Gomez.

Virgil van Dijk (CB)

There is no way we cannot start Van Dijk in the back four. The Dutchman had a dream debut and will look to add another winning goal for us against City.

Joel Matip (CB)

Matip is the other defender who could start, even though Ragnar Klavan has been doing pretty well this season.

Andrew Robertson (LB)

With Moreno still a doubt for this fixture, we have to continue with Robertson, who has done a stellar job for us since returning to the side.

Emre Can (CM)

Can seems a goner in the next transfer window but we still should play him as he provides a lot of bite to our midfield.

Georginio Wijnaldum (CM)

Wijnaldum is another player who is looking for a good game and maybe the Dutch midfielder will display his best against the Manchester side.

Jordan Henderson (CM)

The captain should be fit enough to start the game. He will have to be at his best for sure.

Sadio Mane (LW)

Mane has been a bit off this season, especially after the red card he got in the reverse fixture this season. The former Southampton man will be looking to make amends and he could be the difference maker in this clash.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Salah has a bit of a knock but he has to start in the game if we are to get all three points against Guardiola’s side.

Roberto Firmino (ST)

The Brazilian was involved in a bit of a fracas in the Merseyside derby but his running will be instrumental in our side’s chances of winning the game and making it tough for the City defence.

“Show me a club with more heart” – Some Liverpool fans shower love on Klopp and Sir Kenny Dalglish for meeting 104-year-old fan

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

There was one special fan who got the chance to meet Jurgen Klopp and Sir Kenny Dalglish after Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Crystal Palace, 104-year-old Bernard Sheridan.

The fan was specially invited to the game by Klopp, and it was incredible seeing the supporter meet the legend Dalglish and our current manager.

The fan seemed excited to meet Klopp and also shared a joke or two with Dalglish, and he certainly would have enjoyed the game, even though we made tough work of Palace.

The supporter was just a few days away from his birthday and it was a great present, to be fair.

The Reds have been on overdrive regarding their meetings with fans in recent weeks, and acts such as these bring the supporters closer to the club.

Klopp and the rest of the team have created an incredible atmosphere at Anfield, and the fans seem to be doing their bit as well.

The win over Palace ensured we have a four point lead over Manchester City going into a mini-break, and we need to keep picking up the points.

The Reds haven’t won the Premier League ever, and with the backing of fans such as Sheridan, there is a chance of us breaking the duck.

Several Liverpool fans were pleased with this latest touch and shared their reactions on Twitter.

Liverpool celebrate win over Crystal Palace

Liverpool players celebrate a win

Premier League leaders Liverpool could become the first football to post an annual net profit of more than €100million, according to Inside World Football (h/t Mirror).

The Reds had a fantastic campaign last season reaching the Champions League final. The report claims that the Reds banked €81.3million as they finished the competition as runners-ups, and since they did not take part in the Champions League in 2016-17, this is seen as a top-line growth.

There were some major signings at the club with Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Virgil van Dijk signing, but their costs will most likely be spread over their contract lengths, as per the report. Liverpool also sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January for around €130million.

The report adds that the Reds recorded a turnover of €364million in 2016-17 but that should jump up to more than €450million when the accounts are published by Companies House in March.

The Mirror adds that Inside World Football’s calculations came after a UEFA statement claimed that Leicester City had held the previous record thanks to their Champions League exploits after winning the Premier League.

Liverpool also have had several sponsorship deals over the years since FSG took over, and this latest news shows how healthy the club is financially.

We have also spent money wisely with most of our transfers working out, and this season is a testament to how far we have come under Jurgen Klopp.

“I see him staying with us for the next two or three years” – Blow for Klopp as Bundesliga boss claims Liverpool target isn’t moving soon

Timo Werner

Timo Werner of RB Leipzig

Liverpool face a tough task of signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig after Ralf Rangnick’s later comments.

The German striker has been one of the brightest stars for the Bundesliga side and even represented the national team at the 2018 World Cup.

Werner is just 22, and the Mirror reports that the Reds have been linked with a move for the Bundesliga ace.

Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the versatile forward, as per the report, but Rangnick believes Leipzig could keep Werner.

Speaking to Sky Germany (h/t Mirror), Rangnick also conceded that battling Munich’s interest will be difficult:

“If Bayern are serious, then it will be difficult for us. But they often play with one striker, so I see him staying with us for the next two or three years.”

The report adds that the Leipzig boss also claimed Werner would not be leaving to a rival club in the January window.

The forward has scored 11 times from 18 Bundesliga games this season and can play as the central striker or wide left.

The 22-year-old would make an excellent addition to the Liverpool team, and he would provide cover to our front three.

Rangnick’s comments are expected as no club would want to lose their top player, especially to a rival club, and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the summer regarding the striker.
