Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson and the player is flattered by the fact big clubs are keeping tabs on his progress. Brazil’s No. 1 has enjoyed a stellar season in the Italian capital after stepping out of Wojciech Szczesny’s shadow.

He has 9 clean sheets in 19 Serie A appearances this season, which places him on top of the division alongside Napoli’s Pepe Reina and Inter Milan stopper Samir Handanovic. It’s believed that Jurgen Klopp is considering a January bid following the £142m sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Liverpool have funds to strengthen the team in other positions.

The Reds are said to be ready to upgrade their goalkeeping corps in the summer, as Klopp looks for alternatives to Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. Mignolet and Karius are both competent enough but if we are to go to the next level, a far superior replacement is called for.

A new goalkeeper would solve Klopp’s defensive conundrum completely, after the club announced the £75m signing of Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk earlier this month.

Alisson is one of the most highly-rated shot-stoppers across Europe and is already Brazil’s No.1 goalkeeper. The 25-year-old was speaking to Sky Sports about the possible transfer, claiming a move to Liverpool could be on the cards in June.

“It’s always a pleasure to know that [big] clubs are keeping an eye on you. Maybe we talk about it in June,” Alisson told in an interview with Sky Sports.

Alisson has been fantastic for the Rome-based club this season and it is no surprise that Klopp is already eyeing him. He is an incredible shot-stopper and also has great footballing skills matched with the ability to play a sweeper-keeper role, something that Germany international Manuel Neuer does.

As per Daily Star, Brazilian reporter Gustavo Fogaça Guffo claimed that the Reds had entered into “early negotiations” for the talented stopper late last week. And his claim was confirmed by fellow sports journalist Diogo Rimoli, who tweeted:

“Two days ago I posted this information…

“Here in Rome, the information is that if there is a proposal that turns this figure [reported €45m (£39.7m) transfer fee], Rome closes the deal, no doubt.”

It looks like Klopp wants to wait until the summer instead of making a move for the 25-year-old Brazilian now. Alisson would be expensive but would be worth every penny.
