Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno have hinted on Instagram that teammate Emre Can could stay at Anfield after all. Can, 24, is out of contract at the end of this season having resisted several attempts by Liverpool to extend his four-season stay.

The midfielder of Turkish origin is free to talk with foreign clubs over his future beyond the end of the season as he will be a free agent unless an extension is signed. Juventus have repeatedly been linked with the Germany international and are confident that he will move to Turin on a proposed five-year deal.

However, Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren posted a selfie on Instagram alongside Can and Georginio Wijnaldum, captioning the picture with a wink emoji. Sturridge and Moreno commented on the photograph.

While Sturridge wrote “Kerrrchinnggg!!!”, Moreno commented on the picture by posting two dollar-sign emojis, along with two fist-bump smileys.

It can be interpreted by some as a big signal that Can will sign a new deal at his current club. A January move is currently off the cards as the midfielder is at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s plans so far. The manager seems keen to utilise the midfielder as much as he can.

However, Can insists he has no deal in place with Juventus and is still speaking with Liverpool over a contract extension.

“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer. I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone,” Can was quoted by Sky Sports.

“I am talking with everyone, of course I am talking with Liverpool. Why not? I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.

“I just concentrate on my performance and the football. I will give everything for this team.”

Can produced a commanding performance on Sunday when Liverpool ended Manchester City’s 30-game unbeaten run in the Premier League with a riveting 4-3 victory at Anfield.

“Of course against Manchester City we played brilliant,” added the German international.

“If the teams saw us playing like that, they will give us a lot of respect and we will take a lot of confidence. If teams watch our performance they will think ‘oh wow!’ They will see we are a strong side.

“Every single player performed and did an amazing job. Sadio (Mane), Roberto (Firmino), Mo (Salah), they scored the goals, but Robbo (Andrew Robertson), Joel (Matip), Joe (Gomez) did an amazing job. We don’t have to pick one player.”

With no end to speculation, it will be a big surprise for us if Can decides to stay at Anfield beyond this campaign.
