Liverpool transfer deadline update: Reds close to completing double deal for promising starlets

Liverpool young gun Lloyd Jones could be leaving Anfield for Luton Town, according to various reports. Jones is set to part company with Liverpool – some six-and-a-half years after he joined our academy from Plymouth.

The 22-year-old centre-back is wanted by League Two leaders Luton, who suffered a shock 3-2 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night. And after the dismal defeat, Luton manager Nathan Jones confirmed his interest in the defender, as reported by The Herald

“He’s one we’re interested in and we’re speaking to, so nothing over the line yet. Hopefully we can get one through and if that’s Lloyd Jones then fine,” said Jones.

“We’re looking to bring someone in, we definitely need someone in a defensive area, because they’re going down like flies in terms of my centre-halves, so we definitely need something to strengthen.

“We’re actively doing that, so hopefully we can add to the team, but it won’t be a massively busy one (deadline day).

“We don’t really need much, there won’t be a kneejerk reaction to this result or anything, because we’re still a good side, we’re still top and we’ve got to make sure we bounce back at the weekend.”

Plymouth Argyle are among several clubs to have enquired about Jones but it looks likely the defender would end up at Luton. Jones has not made a first-team appearance for the Reds but has had loan spells with Cheltenham Town, Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Swindon Town.

Jones could be followed out of the club by Ovie Ejaria, who unlike the defender, is set to leave on a temporary basis.

The Liverpool Echo claims that the young midfielder is expected to join Championship club Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season. Ejaria hasn’t featured for the Reds this season and hence Jurgen Klopp has decided to sanction this loan-deal.

Sunderland are struggling to avoid a drop to the League One under Chris Coleman and should Ejaria join them today, the club would get a major boost.

Any speculation surrounding Danny Ings’s future at the club was dismissed by Klopp, who said

“It would be funny if somebody calls about Ingsy – I would love to respond: No chance!” We will see what happens but there is no chance that Ingsy is on the market – only if I’m unconscious.

“Maybe something happens. It’s clear who is a little bit (available).”

Given Ejaria didn’t play this season, it is a good move for him to go out on loan and continue playing at higher level.
