Liverpool boss Klopp nominated for January Manager of the month award along with Pochettino

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp might still be fuming at the 2-2 draw against Tottenham at the weekend but there was some good news for the German as the Liverpool manager was nominated for the Premier League’s Manager of the month award for January

.

January wasn’t the best month for us as we lost to Swansea, which was a surprise, but we did defeat Manchester City and gave them their first Premier League loss of the season. We did enjoy a dramatic win over Burnley, thanks to an injury time goal from Ragnar Klavan and then finished the month off with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

The loss to Swansea did damage the otherwise perfect month for us and laid bearings to our incredible ability to be inconsistent against the weaker teams. Had we defeated the Swans, we would have been safer in the top three with a 5-point lead over Spurs.

The other managers who have been nominated for the award are Pep Guardiola, Carlos Carvalhal, Eddie Howe, David Moyes, Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.

Had Klopp won all the four games then he would have been a shoe-in for the award. Unfortunately, the loss against Carlos Carvalhal’s side have dented his chances to pick up the award. Frankly, these awards don’t count for much unless we win a trophy or ensure that Champions League football remains at Anfield. That has got to be the number one priority for Klopp and his team.

We might have drawn against Spurs but we still have a chance to make it to the top four given Chelsea’s struggles and the fact that Arsenal face Tottenham this weekend.

The one manager that seems a certainty to win this title has to be Swansea manager Carvalhal, given how he has transformed the club.

We have different targets when compared to Swansea and hopefully, we ensure a top-four finish come the end of the season.
