Jurgen Klopp’s men were on fire in the Champions League last week. Liverpool thrashed FC Porto 5-0 in the first leg of Champions League round of 16, with Sadio Mane scoring his first hat-trick for the club. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored a goal each to complete an eye-catching rout of Porto last week.

The big victory all but guaranteed the Merseysiders’ a place in the quarterfinals of the coveted competition ahead of the second-leg at Anfield next month.

Following their win over Porto, the Reds travelled to Marbella in Spain for a warm-weather training camp for four days. It was a mini-break from the hectic schedule which gave Klopp and his squad the time to prepare for the business end of the season.

The players had a fantastic time in Marbella as they were all spotted in high spirits. The Reds were back this week at Melwood training base ahead of the West Ham clash on Saturday at Anfield. At Melwood, all the players looked in good shape earlier this week, gearing up for the weekend’s game against the Hammers. But there was a bizarre moment in the training when Emre Can was snapped giving Sadio Mane a piggybank.

There is no idea as to what kind of drill it was but Can displayed good strength to pick his teammate, Sadio Mane.

Can has been a pivotal figure in Klopp’s machine, contributing 5 goals and 4 assists in 32 competitive appearances for Liverpool this season. However, the midfielder is out of contract at our club in June and having reached the final five months of his contract, he is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

But reportedly, Can is in no hurry to sign an extension with the Reds nor has he given any hints of signing a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club. He wants to remain focused with Reds at least for this season and is expected to take a final decision on his future before completing his contract.

Klopp wants Can to extend his stay at Anfield and certainly respects the player’s decision to run down the contract. Even if the German international leaves the club in the summer, our gaffer has a committed player until the end of the season.

Can’s future remains ambiguous and let us just hope he takes a good decision for his future.
