Liverpool have reignited their interested in Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski. The Reds are eyeing him as a replacement for Emre Can at the end of the season. It now looks almost certain that Can will be leaving us at the end of the season as his current deal expires at the end of the season and he has yet to renew it.
Can has been linked with a number of clubs including Manchester City and Real Madrid, though it is Italian giants Juventus who are currently the favourites to sign him. However, according to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star), it appears that we could sign Zielinski, who we previously failed to sign in 2016.
In 2016, we expressed an interest in signing the Polish talent. However, after being unconvinced of his talent, we ended up losing the race to Napoli who paid £13million to sign him.
This seems like a mistake from us. Zielinski has now churned out world-class performances for Napoli and has earned himself comparisons with Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne. Should we sign him, we may have to pay around £33million.
Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri said:
“He is an absolute talent. He also has great physical skills and if he grows in the level of personality, he can play in any area of the pitch, the new De Bruyne.”
Zielinski could be a good replacement for Can and we certainly do have the funds needed to buy him especially after we generated a mammoth amount from the sale of Philippe Coutinho in January whom we have yet to replace.
