Piotr Zielinski

The fact that Liverpool need a new midfielder over the summer is no secret and we have been linked to scores of talented players in the last few weeks. The latest addition to our ever-growing list of targets appears to be Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

The 23-year-old has played a crucial role in the middle of the park for the Italian side and with Emre Can’s future uncertain, there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp will need fresh recruits in the upcoming transfer window.

Now, Poland legend Zbigniew Boniek has given a glowing review of Zielinski and has called him “better than Kevin De Bruyne”.

“He will be the next De Bruyne? I think Zielinski already has more quality than De Bruyne,” Boniek told Corriere dello Sport.

“They are different kind of players, of course, but they have the same ability to leave their mark on the team. I think that he will become a top player. He was 16, I went to see a Poland youth international match and thought: ‘This is an extraordinary player’.”

Manchester City have been at the very top of their game throughout the season so far and everybody is aware of the kind of integral role De Bruyne has played for them. Be it scoring goals or providing assists, he has done it all for the club and to say that Zielinski is better than him does give us an insight into what he can bring to Anfield.

At present, Napoli are dominating the Serie A and are proudly gracing the top slot in the table – one point ahead of Juventus. Regardless of where they finish, there is no denying that Zielinski has had quite a hand in their good fortunes this term and having a player like him could most certainly boost our chances next campaign. With Naby Keita set to arrive in the summer, the duo could establish a solid partnership in the midfield area.

What are your thoughts? Is Zielinski worthy of playing for Liverpool?
