It ended as a disappointing day for us as Liverpool lost 2-1 to arch-rivals Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday. A win would have seen us leapfrog United into the second-place but it simply wasn’t our day as the hosts clung to three vital points.
Liverpool started on the front-foot and dominated possession, however, creating very little chances. And that domination turned futile as Marcus Rashford twice punished our defensive mistakes in the first-half.
The two United goals set the momentum for the hosts and we just simply failed to find an answer. Although Liverpool pulled one back through an Eric Bailly own goal in the second-half, we purely struggled to display the attacking flair at Old Trafford.
Much was spoken about the threat our fearsome trio carried but United were up to the task, cutting off the supply line to Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
While our midfielders dominated the proceedings in the second-half, the forward line endured an off day, lacking the usual wit and creativity which summed up a disappointing day at Old Trafford.
“Because of the goals they scored, it’s clear,” our manager Jurgen Klopp was quoted by the Telegraph.
“You always can lose a header challenge with Lukaku, that can always happen and there’s a gap in behind and we need to close that. We were in these situations, not there. It made it not easy here so then a lot of OK moments, two good moments we could have finished better, the set pieces were all good.
“I thought second half we chased the game, that’s what you have to do, then scored the goal and yeh, had more chances. I think it was a clear penalty with Fellaini on Sadio. I think we need the right decisions. It was early 2-0 but it didn’t happen and we reacted, that’s our duty, and what we said before the game is true after it. We lost.”
Frustrated with the result, here we bring you the reaction of our fans.
