RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner insists he will definitely stay with the German club next season. Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with summer moves for the 22-year-old, who has scored 31 goals in 55 games since signing for Leipzig from Stuttgart two years ago, with 17 of them coming this season.
He also starred at the Confederations Cup last summer and could lead the line for Germany at the World Cup this summer in Russia.
Earlier this week, Werner indicated that he would like to play in the Premier League, intensifying the speculation of a summer move away from Leipzig.
He was quoted by Daily Mirror as saying,
“Playing in the Premier League is a dream for me. I would like to play for two or three clubs and Manchester United are one of those clubs.”
“But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though.”
Despite revealing his interest to play in the Premier League, Werner, after the 0-0 draw against Stuttgart on Sunday, committed his future to the current side, at least for another season.
Asked if he would stay at Leipzig until the end of his contract in 2020, the German told:
“Next year, definitely, I will stay in Leipzig.”
Werner started his career at Stuttgart but has taken his game to a different level while at Leipzig. Werner is a highly-rated striker in Europe and has been banging goals left, right and centre at Leipzig. It is no surprise that he is being tracked by Liverpool and United.
If he joins Liverpool though, the 22-year-old will thrive under Klopp. At Leipzig, he has impressed everyone and has developed into one of the finest strikers in Bundesliga. He may not have a burly figure but makes up for it with his clever movement and speed.
From his comments, it looks like he is staying at Leipzig for another season but has hinted that he ‘dreams’ of playing in the Premier League. I hope that he chooses Liverpool if he ever decides to move to England.
