“One Of The Strongest Feelings I Have Had…” – Jurgen Klopp Praises Liverpool Supporters After Support During Manchester United Game
Liverpool face Watford in a crucial clash as the Reds look to cement their position in the top four. We were beaten by Manchester United last week and that loss saw Tottenham overtake us into the third position. While Jurgen Klopp’s team still has a four-point advantage over Chelsea, any slipups will hand the momentum to the Blues, who are not in European competition anymore.
In fact, out of the top five, only Manchester City and Liverpool have Champions League action to worry about and with us facing the Cityzens in the quarter-finals, we might only be able to play in the competition next season via our Premier League standing.
Klopp was sharing some of the experiences from the 2-1 loss at Old Trafford and even though we were on the losing end, our fans certainly displayed their love for the side as they belted out our new chant ‘Allez, Allez, Allez.’
“Maybe it feels strange talking about how positive I am about where we are, given our last result was a defeat at Manchester United. But I think I learned as much about us last Saturday at Old Trafford than at any other point this season. Just to be clear: losing there was a hugely disappointing situation and as always I take all the responsibility for it.”
A better second half performance by the Reds
We did do better in the second half of the game and even got a goal back, thanks to Eric Bailly, but that was not enough to grab something from United. Klopp was impressed by our performance in the second half and how much the players were willing to fight for the team.
“From half-time onwards I saw the Liverpool that I have always wanted to see since I came here. A sense of defiance on and off the pitch, a determination to show our quality, a willingness to fight for this club and all that it stands for, a refusal to just accept defeat and a unity between players and supporters that made me even more proud to be Liverpool manager.”
Klopp ended writing in the ‘This is Anfield’ programme for the Watford game by thanking the fans for their incredible support and how he felt immense pride being associated with our club.
“To hear them singing so loudly after the game had been lost gave me one of the strongest feelings I have had since I came here as manager. As well as pride at representing people who support Liverpool in this way, I also felt a powerful responsibility to bring them the success that they deserve. This is something that I feel every day and it will never go away but at that moment it felt as strong as ever. All of this is because the club is in a good way.”
