According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij has agreed to join Inter Milan on a free transfer this summer. The report claims that De Vrij has reached an agreement with the Serie A side, despite interest from Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester City in recent months.

The Netherlands international is available on a free transfer at the end of this season after confirming that he will not extend his deal with Lazio.

The 26-year-old is enjoying an impressive season at Lazio, who are hoping to finish in the top-four to play Champions League football next campaign. The Dutch defender has made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit this season, scoring 5 goals.

Due to De Vrij’s fantastic form this season, a lot of clubs were chasing his signature. However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the centre-back has instead decided to stay in Italy. He will join Inter when his contract expires this summer. Inter are believed to have offered the player a five-year deal worth €4.2 million-a-year, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport.

In my opinion, we have missed a great chance to sign De Vrij as he could have formed a formidable partnership with Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk.
