Lorenzo Pellegrini

According to a report from The Mirror, Liverpool have a clear-cut path to sign Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini. The 21-year-old has been an integral member of the Serie A side this season and his prolific displays have understandably attracted attention from our gaffer Jurgen Klopp, claim The Mirror.

The report has stated that Roma are open to considering offers for Pellegrini and that should come as good news for us.

Pellegrini has appeared 30 times in all competitions for Roma this season and has scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in the process. A defensive midfielder by trade, Pellegrini boasts of a lot of qualities that have been significantly missing in the Liverpool midfield.

Although his tackling skills are weak, Pellegrini’s ball interception and set-piece capabilities are top-notch. The report also states that the player’s release clause stands at £28million, which is a fair price to pay for a young player as talented as Pellegrini.

As per a report from Daily Express, Emre Can is expected to leave Anfield this summer and his exit could create a void in that department. However, Klopp spoke to The Mirror about his thoughts regarding the situation.

“What is the situation at the moment? Open. Nothing is decided. We are in talks with him and it is all good so far apart from he hasn’t yet signed a contract for us. That is all, there is no problem with that.”

The club have already secured a deal for RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, who is set to arrive this summer. His inclusion will boost their chances but in Can’s absence, Liverpool will need an out-and-out defensive-minded midfielder and Pellegrini might be the one to make the cut.

The talented midfielder’s current contract runs until 2021 with the Italian giants but Klopp is capable of convincing them to agree to a sale.
