Predicted Liverpool Lineup To Take On Manchester City In The Champions League

All eyes will fall on Anfield this Wednesday as Liverpool host Manchester City in the first leg of Champions League’s quarter-final clash.

The sides’ last meeting was a riveting encounter, with Liverpool triumphing 4-3 at Anfield in January. That remains City’s only defeat in the league all season. However, City won the first meeting of the season against Reds by a 5-0 margin in September last year when Sadio Mane was sent off at the Etihad.

Both the teams are in hot form and there is every chance of yet another classic at Anfield on Wednesday.

Probable Liverpool XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Loris Karius (GK)

Since being named as the club’s No.1, Karius has done very well for the Reds. His good form between the sticks should see him start against City.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

With Joe Gomez injured and Nathaniel Clyne having just returned from a long-term injury, Alexander-Arnold should start. The right-back will have a task cut out against the nippy and in-form Leroy Sane.

Joel Matip (CB)

Matip has done well in the last couple of games, building a sense of understanding with January signing Virgil van Dijk.

Virgil van Dijk (CB)

Van Dijk now looks very settled at Anfield and he will be hoping to continue in the same vein of form against Man City.

Andrew Robertson (LB)

Andrew Robertson continues to grow as a player, with every passing game for Liverpool. The Scot’s high level of energy and intensity will be required on Wednesday to combat the City attackers.

Jordan Henderson (CDM)

One of the biggest games of the season, skipper Jordan Henderson will need to step up. The midfielder’s main job will be to screen the defence and not allow any City attackers to find spaces.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (RCM)

Chamberlain looks like a perfect player for Klopp. The speed and energy with which he works is simply a joy to watch. The ex-Arsenal man is in really good form and could be a thorn for the City defenders.

Gini Wijnaldum (LCM)

Wijnaldum should be tasked with recovering the ball higher up the pitch and provide the much-needed thrust from the midfield.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Salah was not at his sublime best against Palace but he scored the winner. The hottest property in the Premier League this season, the Egyptian is unstoppable at the moment and will pose the biggest attacking threat to City on Wednesday.

Sadio Mane (LW)

Mane has been good in the last few games for Liverpool and Klopp will hope to see the Senegalese dazzle against Pep’s men. With his pace and trickery, Mane will also be a player the City defenders cannot afford to underestimate.

Roberto Firmino (ST)

One of the most underrated players in the Premier League, Firmino continues to deliver the goods for the Merseysiders. With his intelligent movement and reading of the game, the Brazilian looks like an inch-perfect striker for Klopp.
