Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is fast becoming a fan favourite at Liverpool and he once again displayed why that’s the case when he took part in BT Sport’s #GoalsRecreated recently.

In the video below, the 24-year-old was tasked with recreating Steven Gerrard’s classic Champions League goal against Real Madrid in 2009.

Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has scored a lot of goals but the one he struck against Real Madrid in the Champions League certainly goes down as one of his classics.

Nine years ago, Gerrard latched on to Ryan Babel’s cross from the left to confidently net home past goalkeeper Iker Casillas to make it 3-0 on the night. Rafa Benitez’s Reds later went on to win the tie 5-0 on aggregate and Gerrard’s goal went down as one of the best in Liverpool’s folklore.

The perfectly-timed half-volley is indeed a difficult one to recreate but Chamberlain stepped up to take BT Sport’s challenge.

The midfielder made a mess on his first attempt but he got it absolutely spot on at the second time of asking, from Sadio Mane’s cross from the left. Chamberlain finished impressively before celebrating in Gerrard-Esque’s knee-slide manner.

Watch the video below and enjoy as Chamberlain recreated Gerrard’s classic Champions League strike against Real Madrid.
