Vincent Kompany warns that they will give it their all in the second-leg against Liverpool

Vincent Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has claimed that Liverpool will be facing a “reception” of their own as the Cityzens look to overturn the mauling we gave them.

Liverpool hammered Pep Guardiola’s side 3-0 in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final. All the goals were scored in the first half and the away side were unable to mount a comeback despite dominating possession in the game.

There were some unsavoury scenes before the match began as the City bus was attacked by a few Liverpool fans, however, Kompany claimed that this incident did not play a role in his team wilting under the pressure.

The Belgian was asked about the incident outside the stadium and the Liverpool Echo quoted Kompany as saying,

“No, I don’t care one bit. We are professionals, most of us have seen similar things at different stages of our career.”

City would need to score at least three goals without an answer from us to take the tie to extra-time and the Cityzens captain suggested that his side will do everything they can to get the win.

“What’s key is that you keep yourself in the tie. No-one at City will roll over in the next fixture. We will throw the kitchen sink at it. It’s our place and we will have our own little reception.”

Liverpool fans will be hopeful of a better showing at the Etihad when compared to what we did at the start of the season.

Sadio Mane was sent off early in that eventful game at the Etihad and we got demolished by Guardiola’s side. Liverpool conceded five goals without an answer and if a similar scoreline occurs on Tuesday, it will be upsetting.

Jordan Henderson is out of the second-leg due to a suspension but if we can play in the same manner as we did at Anfield, there is no doubt we can progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
