Liverpool are still interested in Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski. A report from Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football Italia) claims that the Anfield club have kept an eye on the 23-year-old since 2014.
Zielinski was on loan at Empoli from Udinese, from 2014 to 2016, and even though he signed for Napoli in 2016, Liverpool were still tracking the midfielder.
The 23-year-old has scored seven times for the Serie A side this season and even has one assist to his name. Zielinski can play in a number of positions and was even sent out as a left-sided and right-sided forward in a few games for Napoli.
Zielinski’s performances have certainly helped the Naples side make a real challenge for the Serie A title. Maurizio Sarri’s men had led the competition for most of the time but now trail Juventus by 6 points with just 6 games to go.
Given his performances, it is being claimed that Liverpool could revive their interest and make a move for him in the summer. The Reds will have to do some shuffling in their midfield next season as Naby Keita would be coming in to bolster our squad.
There could be more changes in the Liverpool midfield given that Emre Can’s future is still in doubt, as the German has not yet signed a new deal with the Reds.
Can would be a free agent come the start of next season. Should Can end up leaving the Reds, we would need a quality midfielder to replace him and Zielinski could be the man to do the job.
The 23-year-old is not a midfield destroyer and he isn’t someone who is great at tackling or winning aerial duels. However, the Pole can pass the ball around and that would work well in a ‘Jurgen Klopp’ midfield.
