According to Anfield Edition, James Milner is in line to receive a one-year contract extension at Liverpool. Milner joined the Reds on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015 and has been a consistent performer so far for our club.
His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season but Jurgen Klopp wants to reward him with a contract extension as our gaffer finds the veteran an important member of our squad, as per the report.
Milner has been a permanent fixture in the Liverpool team this season. He has featured in 41 games out of 49 games so far, which clearly speaks volumes about how highly he is rated by Klopp.
The 32-year-old is famous for his versatility and played the majority of last season in a makeshift left-back role. He impressed last season with his displays in defence but following the signing of Andrew Robertson, Milner has been given a role in midfield this season. No surprises, he has thrived in midfield with his extra-ordinary work-rate and gusto.
Milner is one of the fittest players in the Liverpool squad. At 32, he lacks the pace but the former England international makes up for it with his experience and know-how of the game. Also, Milner’s leadership qualities cannot be overlooked as he has captained the side on eight occasions this season.
Milner, who earns £120,000-a-week at Anfield, is enjoying his best season at Liverpool and for all the hard work and determination he has shown over the years, the veteran deserves to get a one-year contract extension in the summer.
