AS Roma produced a stunning comeback to beat Barcelona in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League. They tried to pull off something similar at Anfield but Liverpool beat the Italians 5-2.
It was a high-octane encounter as one might have expected. Right from the starting whistle to the final one, tensions were high.
We got to see more of Mohamed Salah’s brilliance as Liverpool completely dominated the proceedings for a good majority of the game. Our Egyptian marvel scored a stunning brace which was followed by a sweet goal from Sadio Mane in the first half.
After the break, Roberto Firmino joined the party and scored a spectacular brace. With 5 goals in the bag, we looked set to travel to Kiev.
However, Roma stepped up to prove why they should never be written off. Edin Dzeko scored a goal in the 81st minute which was followed by Diego Perotti’s spot-kick. The scoreline read 5-2.
At the end of the day, Liverpool might have won but a tough encounter awaits us as in the second leg. Much as we would have liked to retain our 5-goal lead, we must now focus on preparing for the second leg.
We are still ahead by 3 goals and that should provide us with a comfortable cushion. Regardless, it was a brilliant game of football and our fans went crazy on Twitter. Here are some of the best tweets from our fellow supporters:

I'm told that this is the first time a team has had 3x players with 8+ goals in a Champions League campaign. Liverpool, quite simply, are deadly.

Crazy, crazy night. Liverpool will be disappointed with the last 10 minutes, but how can you complain with a 5-2 win in a CL semi final? They'll score in Italy, surely. Salah next level brilliant tonight, Firmino not far behind. TAA, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Milner excellent.

I hate mentioning it, cause I’m delighted, but Lovren has cost Liverpool three goals since Saturday

For 75 minutes, that was a phenomenal performance. Firmino the mastermind & Salah exceptional again. Disappointing to concede two goals but a very healthy position for the away leg. Stopping this Liverpool side from scoring is extremely hard.

When have a Liverpool team ever been 5-2 up in a European Cup semi final first leg? Forget when those goals came, you'd have taken that!
One goal in rome…
