According to BBC, Rangers are confident of appointing former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard as their manager in the next few days.
Gerrard is currently the manager of Liverpool’s Under-18 team but will end his spell to take on the role in Glasgow. Taking charge of Rangers will pit him against his former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, who is currently at the helm of Celtic and is attempting back-to-back domestic trebles.
Graeme Murty has been in charge of Rangers since October following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha. Should Gerrard, who retired in 2016 after spending 19 years with Liverpool, take the job at Rangers, would replace Murty.
The former England international knocked back other approaches to join the youth set-up at Anfield, including the chance to lead MK Dons. According to BBC, Gerrard said at the time the offer from MK Dons had “come a bit too soon”.
However, having gained valuable experience by coaching the Liverpool Under-18 team, Gerrard would love to step up and take the Rangers job in order to help the Scottish club challenge Celtic.
A move to Ibrox is tantalising and Gerrard must take it without second thoughts. With speculation about Rangers closing in on making Gerrard as their manager in the next couple of days, here is how Twitter reacted to the news.
Starting his career at pub level….. Oops I meant club level.

Great move by Rangers appointing Steven Gerrard as manager.
If anyone can stop Brendan Rodgers winning a title it’s Gerrard.
He’s done it before after all….#slippyG

I can’t see this working out.
Not. One. Bit.— (@mben86) April 29, 2018
Absolute nonsense. It will end in failure. Good players don’t automatically make good managers. Maradona and Charlton to name two.

Outstanding player..world class even. But still a gamble by Rangers on a novice manager

Rangers only want Steven Gerrard as Manager because he was the last man to stop Brendan Rodgers winning a title.
