According to a report from Corriere Della Sera (h/t Calciomercato), AS Roma are planning a summer swoop for Liverpool target Dani Ceballos.
The Real Madrid midfielder has appeared just 18 times for the Spanish outfit this season. For any developing 21-year-old footballer, it is important to play regularly to improve further and hence, Ceballos must prioritise an exit from Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
Although Liverpool have been one of the interested parties, it seems like Roma are ready to jump into the mix. The Reds will face the Italian outfit on Wednesday in the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final but it seems like the battle will continue well into the summer.
Ceballos might not have played much this season but with central midfielders like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the starting line-up, one cannot blame him for the lack of game time.
His stats do not look promising since he has scored just 2 goals in the La Liga this term but more often than not, stats do not account for everything. Ceballos is an incredibly skilled player, who could add immense value to any side he may join.
With Roma on the hunt for his signature, it will certainly make our job difficult. We are in need of boosting our central midfield since Emre Can’s contract will come to an end this summer. Furthermore, if we are to harbour hopes of winning silverware, a player like Ceballos could come in handy.
Thus, given a choice, it would be beneficial for Liverpool to continue pursuing a deal for Ceballos irrespective of competition from other clubs.
