According to a report from The Guardian, Liverpool are ready to offer Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno new contracts after doing the same for Roberto Firmino recently.
The defenders have not exactly enjoyed the best of campaigns with Liverpool this season. Klavan has been criticised time and again for his lacklustre displays at the heart of the defence while Moreno’s position has been usurped by the young Andy Robertson.
Both players have failed to impress and they have been the reason behind a lot of frustrations in the Reds camp. However, it seems like the club are willing to move past it and tie them down to long-term deals at Anfield.
The Guardian also claims that Liverpool officials have commenced contract talks with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. The two attackers have been absolutely phenomenal this season and it is only fitting for the club to offer them new contracts. After all, the trio has been instrumental in our success this term.
Moreno and Klavan, on the other hand, can be termed as squad players at best. However, if we are to chase silverware next season and make a strong challenge for the Premier League trophy, we will need all hands on the deck.
To that end, it makes sense to offer new contracts for Klavan and Moreno. Both players have been at Anfield for a while now and they also boast of ample experience. Granted, they may not have fired on all fronts this season but going forward, it will help to have squad depth.
