Robbie Fowler

Robbie Fowler could be our next U18 manager according to a report from the Daily Mirror. As we all know, Steven Gerrard, the former U18 manager has left the side to take over the job at Scottish giants Rangers and our former striker could fill the hole.

Gerrard worked with the academy and U18 side for close to 18 months but has now decided to take up a big job and it really is going to be a tough one, trying to wrestle the title away from Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

However, back on Merseyside, we could see the rise of Fowler into management. The former England striker has worked with our youth team earlier and also is part of the Robbie Fowler Education and Football Academy.

The 46-year-old might not have worked extensively with the coaching side of the team but it would be nice to have another legend back in the side, helping the young kids out.

Fowler was one of the best strikers in the world during his time with us and his experience, just like Gerrard’s, could be of great value to our young players coming through the youth teams.

Former Liverpool U18 coach Steven Gerrard has taken over as Rangers boss

The Englishman has had stints at a number of clubs such as Leeds United, Cardiff City, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers to name a few but it was his scoring record at Liverpool which got people talking all around.

Fowler is the sixth highest goal-scorer in the history of the Premier League and has scored 128 goals for Liverpool.

It will be interesting to see who we pick to take over the U18 side but signing someone who has played for the club is the right move to make.

Liverpool require some experience in the coaching department and if we can get Fowler to do more with the U18 side, it will be good for our youngsters as they can pick up a lot from the former striker.
