As per a report from Spanish publication Don Balon, Liverpool are in the market for a summer deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Casemiro has acted as a strong foundation in Real’s midfield trio. Often deployed at the base, the 26-year-old always excels and his support allows the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to often wander higher up the field.

Casemiro is also quite adept at contributing to the attack. This season, he has managed to score 6 goals and provide 3 assists for the European giants and continues to be a key player for the club. Hence, it is a tad surprising to see that Liverpool are being linked to a move for him.

Make no mistake – a player like Casemiro could go a long way in solving our midfield woes. With Emre Can suffering due to a back injury, we have resorted to Jordan Henderson for the defensive midfield role.

However, going forward, Henderson alone will not be sufficient. Also, Can is out of contract at the end of the season and that certainly does not work in our favour.

An experienced yet skilled player like Casemiro could truly work wonders for us. Much like Real, Liverpool often play a 4-3-3 set-up and the Brazilian should face no trouble settling in.

Getting back to reality, it seems highly unlikely for such a move to be in the works. Zinedine Zidane’s squad is built around Casemiro’s influence in the midfield and it could be a while before the player leaves Santiago Bernabeu.

Moreover, we have Naby Keita coming in and I don’t think Casemiro is the man for us.
