Liverpool dealt a disappointing transfer blow as key target’s father denies Klopp rumours

Nabil Fekir

Nabil Fekir’s father has come out and claimed that there is no deal in place to see the French attacker move to Liverpool from Lyon.

While speaking to Olympique Et Lyonnais (h/t Express) Fekir’s father was quoted as saying:

“I can deny this information right now: it’s not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close.”

There were also rumours that the player had already met our manager Jurgen Klopp earlier in the year and that was laid to rest as well by the Lyon player’s father.

“I can guarantee you, he has never met.”

Fekir has been one of Lyon’s best players in recent years and it certainly came as a shock to many when reports of him joining Liverpool surfaced.

The Reds haven’t been the best in dealing with big money transfers in recent seasons, with Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk being two such examples.

While Keita has ended up joining us, we had to battle hard with RB Leipzig to sign the player up and the deal was made in such a manner that the Guinea midfielder only joins us for next season. We all know how the Van Dijk saga went and it needs no recap.

Fekir is certainly capable of being a great option for us and it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga grows. The 24-year-old can play anywhere across the front line and having someone of his ilk could provide some rest to some of our stars.

Mohamed Salah has been a breakout star for us but we have had our struggles with Sadio Mane, who has had injuries to deal with.

While we do have Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings, there is a need for more quality players in the side and quality is what Fekir brings in abundance.

The 24-year-old has scored 22 goals for the French club this season and also has 8 assists to his name. Playing for us could see him get more chances to score and create goals too and it would be great if somehow we can snatch him up in the summer.
