Liverpool finally find out how much they have to pay for Naby Keita after Leipzig’s 6th-place finish

Naby Keita

Liverpool managed to secure an agreement to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita last summer and with this season coming to an end, it is only a matter of time before we see him in a Liverpool jersey.

There was some ambiguity over how much the Reds would have to spend to officially sign him but as per a recent report from Liverpool Echo, we will have to pay a fee in the region of £52.75million.

According to the terms of the agreement, the price was dependent on where Leipzig finished in the Bundesliga this season. The German giants have finished 6th, meaning they have secured a spot in the Europa League and hence, we need to shell out the aforementioned amount.

It does seem like a good bargain since their progression to the Champions League would have seen the overall price increase to £59million

. On the flipside, had Leipzig finished either 7th or below, we could have secured Keita for £48million.

Considering the price we are paying, it is undoubtedly a good deal for a player of Keita’s calibre. Although our attack has flourished this season, our midfield has lacked quality and depth.

Our troubles have been further compounded by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s unfortunate injury and Emre Can’s contract which is set to expire this summer.

Thus, signing Keita is certainly the need of the hour for Liverpool. With a serious title challenge to play for and to continue making a mark in the Champions League, Keita could certainly come in handy.
