As per a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital (h/t Express), Ousmane Dembele is edging closer to joining Liverpool this summer. The report goes on to claim that the Catalan giants could be open to negotiations and we could see the promising youngster in a Liverpool jersey next term.
Interestingly, Dembele and Klopp both have ties with Borussia Dortmund. Prior to joining Liverpool, Klopp was the manager of the German giants whereas Dembele was one of their most promising youngsters ahead of his move to Camp Nou.
It seems like these two might cross paths if Barcelona and Liverpool can agree on a deal. The report goes on to claim that Barcelona are likely to sign Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann, meaning Dembele will fall further below in the pecking order.
Dembele’s first season in La Liga hasn’t been all that impressive. He got off to a slow start and then picked up an injury. However, even after recovering, Dembele has failed to live up to his billing.
If a deal for Griezmann really is on the table, it would be better for Dembele to move to a different club to spend more time on the field.
At 20 years of age, he must play regularly to improve further and with a manager like Klopp guiding him, he is likely to flourish at Anfield.
However, the report claims that Barcelona paid over £130million to sign him (£135.5m according to BBC) and that the Catalans will demand a hefty fee for Dembele’s services.
