Liverpool had plenty of reasons to cheer after the final match against Brighton & Hove Albion but one of the biggest delights was to see the young Dominic Solanke score a splendid goal.
The 20-year-old has not been able to play regularly and one cannot blame him. Our front trio comprising of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino has been absolutely incredible. They have established a solid partnership up front and it is tough for a player like Solanke to get chosen ahead of them.
However, if his performance against Brighton is anything to go by, it is safe to say that he has a bright future ahead at Anfield.
The strike marked Solanke’s first ever goal in a Liverpool jersey. Although he started 5 times in the Premier League, Solanke failed to do much in front of the net. However, the youngster remained patient through it all and continued to fight and it looks like his hard work is finally paying off.
With a do-or-die Champions League final coming up against Real Madrid, it remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp allows Solanke to feature for a while. But for now, the youngster seems to be deservedly pleased with the way he performed.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Solanke said:
“I saw Mo pick up the ball and beat his defender like he always does. I made a dart across the opposite way and he slipped me over a great pass. I hit it… and after that, it was just amazing.
“Especially to do it here at Anfield in front of all of our fans. We knew we had important games at the end of the season, we knew we had to get a result and we did that so everybody is really happy.”
Solanke went on to add that he is extremely happy with the way Klopp maintained faith in him even when the going was tough. Well, Solanke has certainly repaid Klopp’s faith in dividends and I cannot wait to see him flourish next season!
