Liverpool Echo‘s James Pearce is one of the most trusted journalists as far as our club’s news is concerned. Be it transfer rumours or potential deals, Pearce’s articles are reliable and he seems to know and understand the club inside out as well.

The publication often conducts Q&A sessions with Pearce and Liverpool fans to help the supporters get a clear picture of what exactly is happening behind the scenes. In a similar setting recently, a fan asked him about Liverpool’s chances of signing Lyon star Nabil Fekir.

Fekir has been linked with a €70m move to Liverpool but if Pearce is to be believed, there seems to be no such deal in the works.

Nabil Fekir

“He’s a player Liverpool have watched and he would be a classy addition to Klopp’s attacking armoury, but I’m not aware of any negotiations having taken place so far. It’s certainly not the case that a deal has been agreed,” explained Pearce.

It does come as a setback of sorts since Fekir could add immense value to the current Liverpool side. Since Philippe Coutinho’s departure, we have lacked the services of a creative midfielder and although Fekir would not be a like-to-like replacement, he would still come pretty close.

If we are to think optimistically, we can harbour some hope since Pearce did mention that Liverpool have monitored Fekir. The transfer window is yet to commence officially and once that happens, let’s hope Jurgen Klopp and co make a move to actively pursue him. Even if a deal for him does not work out, it would be great if we sign a similar player this summer.
