Over the years, regardless of how things have changed in the world of the Premier League, the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United fans remains intact. There are a lot of things that failed to stand the test of time but the animosity between the two sets of fans have only gotten stronger.
In the recently concluded season, United may have finished ahead of us but we have a Champions League final against Real Madrid at hand. In recent times, we are the only English club to get so far ahead in the elite European competition and irrespective of whether we win or not, it is a big deal.
United, meanwhile, will have to slog it out against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. That places them in a good position to prevent ending the season without a trophy but if we manage to win the Champions League, the Red Devils will not like it one bit.
It seems like Gary Neville has suggested as much. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the former Manchester United star said a lot of things, including what he would do if Liverpool actually manage to beat Real Madrid and win the coveted Champions League.
“Oh no, make no mistake about it, this could be the season from hell,” he said. “I mean, Manchester City have won the title [by 19 points], they’ve won two trophies.
“If Liverpool now win the European Cup and Chelsea beat United in the FA Cup final, to be honest I might go travelling for a year to somewhere where there’s no Wi-Fi or phone signal.”
Well, as a Liverpool fan, that would certainly be a sight I would love to see. Let’s hope our team is able to deliver the required result to make this happen when we face the Spanish giants in Kiev.
