Paul Gorst believes £120,000-a-week star could be key to Liverpool’s success in Champions League final

Liverpool have been a joy to watch this season under Jurgen Klopp and a part of that is due to the influence and performances of our front three.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have been incredible for us but one player who has struggled to make an impact has been Adam Lallana.

The £120,000-a-week Englishman has been plagued with injury issues throughout the season but Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst believes that the final game of the season, the Champions League final against Real Madrid, could see the former Saint becoming a game changer for us.

Writing in his column, Gorst added:

“Liverpool are short on game-changers and the next week of training will be crucial to readying Lallana for the biggest game in club football.

“And despite the succession of setbacks in what has been a disastrous campaign personally, Lallana could yet have a glorious ending to his tale of woe.”

Problems aplenty for Liverpool and Lallana

Lallana’s injury concerns started in pre-season when he picked up an injury in the Audi Cup prior to our meeting with Atletico Madrid.

That saw him on the sidelines until November and then there was a succession of injuries that have limited his playing time to just one start apiece in the Champions League and the Premier League.

The Englishman did play the last 15 minutes or so in our final Premier League game of the season against Brighton but a fit Lallana is extremely important to our chances in the final against Madrid. Even if he does not start, he could come on and be the spark for us against the defending champions.

It wouldn’t be a surprise even if Jurgen Klopp prefers to start Lallana in the final given that the Englishman might have a point to prove not only against the opposition but to himself too.

Lallana turned 30 recently and his link-up play with the front three could be the X-factor in the final against the La Liga giants.

The Champions League final will be one of the biggest nights in recent years for Liverpool and hopefully, Lallana and the team can come out on top against Real.
