Liverpool lost the Champions League final, thanks to a wonder goal from Gareth Bale and some shocking goalkeeping from Loris Karius. The match might have ended 3-1 but the talk of the town will be about Karius and how he gifted Madrid a pair of goals.
The match didn’t go according to plan as Mohamed Salah had to be replaced in the 30th minute after he was tackled by Sergio Ramos.
Things then took a turn for the worse when Karius inexplicably tried to throw the ball out but Karim Benzema was at hand to simply deflect the ball into the net.
Sadio Mane equalised for us after Dejan Lovren headed a corner towards the goal but Bale scored one of the greatest goals in Champions League history with a spectacular overhead kick to give Madrid a 2-1 lead.
Karius then could not hold on to a long-range strike from the Welshman and Madrid defended their Champions League crown.
This might not have been the kind of finish we would have wanted but this will be a season to remember as we did do well to reach a final when no one expected us to.
Twitter certainly wasn’t a happy place here are some of the reactions from the game.
It’s desperately disappointing. There is no consolation in defeat. But there is one guarantee – LFC have played the best football at Anfield for 20 years this season. And they will do so again & again under Klopp. It will continue to be privilege watching them.

Karius devastated walking off the pitch in tears apologising to the Liverpool fans. Can’t imagine how he’ll be feeling knowing how much a win would’ve meant to them. Fair play to the #LFC fans who applauded him. Liverpool should be proud to have made it to the final #UCLFinal

Liverpool can hold their heads up high. They did excellent to get this far in the competition and lose in the way they did.
Salah off injured in 1st half after a cynical challenge by Ramos, followed by 2 incredibly unfortunate Karius mistakes. Very unlucky! #LFC #UCLFinal

I will single out Dejan Lovren for some praise. He’s been immense tonight, alongside the rest of the defence.
Unfortunately let down by the goalkeeper tonight. Two horrible mistakes. #LFC

Irrespective of Karius and the gutting result, can’t fault the players’ effort and the travelling Kop have been absolutely brilliant in #Kiev. Still singing now and we lost #AllezAllezAllez #LFC #UCLFinal #RMALFC
