After months of excitement, Liverpool’s Champions League run came to a dismal end as Real Madrid beat us 3-1 to lift the trophy for the third consecutive time.
We were off to a bad start as Mohamed Salah picked up a shoulder injury and from thereon, our attack seemed to lose power. However, the biggest disappointment of the night was undoubtedly Loris Karius’ display between the sticks.
Despite showing promise in Simon Mignolet’s absence, Karius effectively ruined his reputation last night. His poor distribution skills were there for the world to see as a lack of judgement helped Karim Benzema open the scoring. Even for the next 2 goals by Gareth Bale, Karius failed to do much.
He did make a few saves along the way but unfortunately for the player, the world will only remember the glaring mistakes. Admittedly, a lot of us were frustrated with him but once the match ended, Karius tearfully asked the Liverpool fans for forgiveness and at that moment, it was clear that he had endured a bad day at work.
Full credit goes to our fanbase as a lot of supporters sent out positive messages to Karius on Twitter. Here are some of the best:

I was fuming last night at his mistakes but when I see the abuse he & his family are getting then we all need to put a collective arm around Karius. Not sure if he will be our No1 next season but if he is then I'll support him 100%. Onwards and upwards #LFC pic.twitter.com/tyfYA1Lei4

Karius has been very good since he got the first team spot after Xmas & made many match winning saves, the one against Newcastle was springs to mind.
Don’t let this break you @LorisKarius come back stronger

Before you consider wading into Loris Karius today, spend 20 seconds watching this from last night and remember he's only 24 years old. #LFC @LFC #Karius pic.twitter.com/H7yUXlATP7

Some of the vile and disgusting abuse vented at Karius is nothing short of disgraceful… some people should be ashamed of themselves

If we believe in what You Never Walk alone stands for, then supporting, not abusing, Loris Karius is what we need to do. pic.twitter.com/Rr9l9rFYEn
