Liverpool’s fantastic new signing Fabinho is an incredibly versatile player and ever since the club confirmed the £39m deal, there has been a lot of speculation as to where he would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s playing XI.

Fabinho embarked on his career as a right-back but over the years, he transitioned into a defensive midfielder. However, the Brazilian can essay both roles with equal gusto as seen from his displays for AS Monaco. The 24-year-old was an integral part of their success in recent times, which involves playing a key role in their scintillating 2016/17 Ligue 1 title win.

Over the course of last campaign, it has been quite evident that Liverpool lack depth in the midfield department – a fact that was harshly highlighted in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid as well.

According to an interview published by Liverpool’s official website, Jurgen Klopp has provided an insight into where he Fabinho could possibly slot in.

Speaking to LFC.com, our gaffer said:

“He has ability and mentality to play at the highest level in a number of positions. He can play ‘6’, ‘8’ and ‘2’. This is cool.

“He is tactically very strong and football smart. I think he improves our squad and there aren’t that many players you can say that about in this moment, because the quality we have already is so high.”

Indeed, we are on the verge of assembling a formidable squad for next season. With Naby Keita also set to arrive at Anfield this summer, it looks like we are finally moving past our midfield woes and hopefully, that will lead to bigger and better things in the upcoming campaign.

Klopp also mentioned that he is quite pleased with Fabinho’s overall experience so far. All-in-all, this could be the signing to truly revamp our performances in the seasons to come.
