According to a report by Italian publication La Repubblica, Liverpool are continuing to monitor AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for a possible summer move.

After Loris Karius’ terrible show in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, it is quite evident that we need a new goalkeeper. In fact, one might even say that our season could have ended on a different note had we had a more solid keeper between the sticks.

Hence, it is good to see the club prioritising a move for a goalkeeper and Donnarumma, in particular, seems like a splendid option.

However, the Italian report claims that the price tag could be the only stumbling block to prevent a potential deal. La Repubblica claims Liverpool are willing to offer a fee in the region of €40m but the Rossoneri are looking for €70m and above.

To be fair, €70m is not a steep price in today’s inflated transfer market. Call it what you want but we have come to a place where we need to drop big bucks in order to sign quality players and after the fateful night in Kiev, Liverpool clearly need reinforcements.

As per Squawka, Donnarumma maintained 12 clean sheets in 34 Serie A appearances last season. There is, of course, room for improvement since he is just 19 years of age but for his potential and skills, it makes sense to pursue a deal for him.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool are willing to shell out the required amount but if we do, Donnarumma would be a great buy.
