A report from Liverpool Echo has credited Liverpool with an interest in Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng, who is widely regarded as one of the most solid defenders in modern-day football.
The report claims that Klopp is aiming to sign Boateng as Van Dijk’s partner at the back and we could acquire his services for a fee of £40million, which is not bad in this day and age. Interestingly, the player has prior Premier League experience from a stint with Manchester City where he failed to impress. His exploits for Bayern and Germany, however, paint a different story.
Earlier in January, Liverpool managed to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton after months of drama and speculation. It goes without saying that our defence has improved since then but it looks like we have a good chance of strengthening it further by making a move for Boateng.
According to Christian Falk of Sport Bild, Bayern will be willing to sell Boateng if there is a lucrative offer.
Decision of the club: @FCBayern would sell Thiago, Vidal, Bernat or Boateng if there is a lucrative offer @SPORTBILD

The 29-year-old central defender could be the final piece required to establish a formidable centre-back pairing for Liverpool. For now, the likes of Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have partnered Van Dijk at the back and to be fair, they have fared decently.
However, a player like Boateng would truly transform our defence alongside Van Dijk. That said, the German will receive plenty of offers and it remains to be seen if Liverpool make a move in the first place. Nevertheless, a move for Boateng could help us create one of the best central defence partnerships in the Premier League.
