Liverpool are ready to make a £25m bid for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno according to Bild (h/t The Daily Star).
The 26-year-old German is being linked with a move away from the Bay Arena after the club signed Lukas Hradecky from Eintracht Frankfurt a few weeks ago.
The German is not looking to be the No.2 keeper at the Bundesliga club next season as he attempts to make it to the national side. Leno is not a part of the World Cup squad going to Russia, however, he was included in the primary 27-man squad by Joachim Low.
The report also goes on to say that the Reds will lodge the bid in a few days and hope to test the resistance of the Bundesliga side as they look to sign the keeper before the start of the World Cup.
The Reds do face competition from Arsenal for the keeper and even Atletico Madrid want to take the German keeper to Spain.
Going back to Germany for a keeper
We did sign Loris Karius a couple of years ago from Mainz and well, that decision is yet to pay off. The young German had a disaster outing against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Reds have been linked with Alisson and Jan Oblak in recent weeks, however, Leno would be a sound investment given that we would not have to break the bank and the keeper is still young and can get better with time.
Of course, there will be doubts about why Leno is not commanding a crazy fee such as Oblak and Alisson but the German is a better option to have than Karius and Simon Mignolet.
